Western Australian Energy Market

WA market expertise with National Energy Market capability.

ECWA's core market is Western Australia, however ECWA also supports WA-based clients that operate sites throughout the National Energy Market.

Western Australian Energy Market (WEM)

WA operates under the Western Australian Energy Market (WEM). Only customers based in the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) and using more than 50,000 kWh of electricity per annum are generally able to choose their electricity retailer.

The SWIS electricity infrastructure is owned and operated by Western Power. Customers outside the SWIS are generally serviced by Horizon Power and retail contestability is not currently available in those areas.

  • Energy procurement within the SWIS
  • Solar procurement state-wide
  • Network Design and Power Upgrade assistance across most parts of WA
  • Western Power application and connection support

National Energy Market (NEM)

Electrical Consultancy WA can also assist with energy procurement in the National Energy Market (NEM), which includes the eastern states except the Northern Territory, which has not yet deregulated electricity.

ECWA has established relationships and formal energy broker agreements with the top Tier 1 energy retailers and several Tier 2 energy retailers.

  • Support for WA businesses with Eastern States sites
  • Tier 1 and Tier 2 retailer relationships
  • Procurement support across QLD, NSW, VIC, SA and TAS

Our Foundation

Built on practical electrical experience and independent energy advice.

ECWA's foundation is the combination of hands-on electrical knowledge, energy market experience and long-term relationships across Western Australia.

Electrical Consultancy WA was established in 2015 after Carlo Scamuffo assisted a number of Western Australian clients with electrical upgrades and power infrastructure requirements. Those early projects highlighted a clear need for practical advice that connected electrical design, Western Power requirements and commercial energy outcomes.

From that foundation, ECWA developed two closely connected service areas: electrical, energy and network consultancy, and energy procurement. The network design and power upgrade side of the business supports clients with Western Power applications, connections, infrastructure planning and project coordination. The energy procurement side helps clients understand electricity and gas supply options, retailer pricing and contract structures.

Today, ECWA uses this combined technical and commercial knowledge to help businesses reduce energy costs where possible, manage infrastructure upgrades, assess supply options and make informed decisions within the Western Australian Energy Market. ECWA remains focused on independent advice, practical implementation and long-term client relationships.
